Kitchen Trends For Spring 2022

Top 8 Kitchen Design Trends For 2022

2022 is in the swing of spring, which means it’s time to think about planning your next great on-trend kitchen design for the season.

This year, we’re throwing it back to the past with mid-century modern styles and bold, retro colors. We’re also spending more time (and money) on our countertops, as well as adding touches of clean, swirling marble all over the kitchen – because why not? Finally, we’re becoming cleverer at hiding our appliances, because we like to see a cohesive, unified space without a hulking fridge or an ugly stove breaking up the party.

Take out your paper and pen and start taking note of our top 8 kitchen design trends for spring 2022 below.

Top 8 Kitchen Design Trends For 2022

1. Specialty Organizing Cabinetry

Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to find what you’re looking for in your own kitchen. The ironic thing is that most space problems could be solved if cabinets and drawers were simply designed to use their space efficiently and hold items neatly.

That’s why specialty organizing cabinetry is trending in 2022. People are living for these cabinets and drawers, many of them custom-made, which perfectly hold a specific type of item or squeeze into a previously unusable space.

Imagine this scenario: you’re cooking a delicious meal and you need a certain spice. Normally, you would have to rummage around a crowded spice rack on your countertop. Instead, you only need to pull out your customized vertical spice drawer, pick out what you need, and slide it back into its cabinet where it’s not in your way.

You can see immediately why this kitchen design trend is popular this season. They make cooking and working in your kitchen so much faster and efficient.

2. Bold Colour Choices

During the pandemic, people got tired of feeling drab and gloomy. So, they decided to go bold with their colour choices in the kitchen.

From the walls and backsplash to the cabinets and furniture, to the fixtures: anywhere and anything in the kitchen is ripe for a bold colour like a peachy coral or a deep emerald. If you love vintage and retro, then this trend is right on point for you. Lots of kitchens in the 40s, 50s, and 60s used bright, vibrant colours like lime green, turquoise, and golden yellow. (Psst… retro styles are also trending this year.)

Be bold in 2022! Pop some colour in your kitchen!

3. High End Countertops

Homeowners spent a lot of money on kitchen countertops last year, so we expect this trend to continue in 2022. It makes sense. New and upcoming homeowners aren’t satisfied with a serviceable but drab stone or vinyl anymore. They want counters that are stunning to look at. They may also install custom cabinetry, such as a long island, that requires a large (and therefore more expensive) slab of stone to cover.

When you’re designing your kitchen in 2022, make sure you don’t skimp out on the countertops.

4. Marble Everywhere

We love marble, and so does everyone else in 2022! Marble is timeless and forever classic, and that’s probably why it’s a kitchen design trend this season. People want that antique, elegant flair that marble offers (again, retro and vintage are popular this year). Simultaneously, many variations of marble are streamlined and modern. It’s the perfect blend of old and new, which makes it perfect for 2022.

5. Floating Shelves

Floating shelves in your kitchen? Yes, and they’re trending this spring. Cabinet doors are usually solid wood or pressed wood, meaning they don’t let you display all the pretty dishes and baubles and cookbooks you own. But floating shelves – even just one or two – let you play around with décor while still serving as storage. It’s a blend of form and functionality that absolutely fits the stylish meets practical vibes of 2022.

6. Mid-Century Modern Comeback

Speaking of stylish: look at what’s making a comeback this year! It’s the mid-century modern style of the 40s, 50s, and 60s. We love the unique shapes and bold, earthy of this era as well as the materials: medium woods and shiny metals. These are all elements you can easily incorporate into your kitchen with a fresh coat of paint or a few savvy garage sale purchases.

Just like marble, we believe this style will always come back around to trend. More than any other era in the 20th century, it perfectly evokes that vintage vibe that is beloved by every generation.

7. Broken Plan Layout

Remember the past several years when all we heard was, “Homeowners want open floor plans!”? Now, the trend is the broken floor plan.

The broken floor plan still uses an open floor plan. After all, many modern houses have been built with this layout. But it does use furniture, screens, and large pieces of house décor to break up the open space into separate areas.

When you’re designing your kitchen in 2022, think of ways you can turn it into a distinct space without completely cutting off the flow to the rest of the house. One idea is to a screen or even a bookcase with the back taken off in front of a wide entrance to a kitchen to break up the open floor plan.

8. Hidden Appliances

We often spend a lot of time and money to find the perfect appliances with just the right finish. But what if we just hid them away so that it no longer mattered what finish they were? They would simply match the rest of the cabinetry.

That’s the idea behind the 2022 kitchen design trend of hiding your appliances in drawers or amid the cabinets. This lends the illusion that there is more space in your kitchen then there actually is. At the same time, it creates an uninterrupted flow that is attractive to look at.
